We are delighted to announce that we have teamed up with Certainty® which maintains a UK national will register. As Founder Members, Bunkers is able to give clients access to this important resource.
A recent survey commissioned by Certainty® suggested that around 67% of people in the UK didn't know the location of their parent's will. Over time, with house moves, new wills and new relationships the location of your will may be overlooked or forgotten. At the very least this is inconvenient for a grieving loved one, but, more often that not, the process of tracking down a will can involve unforeseen costs and delay. In the worst case, a lost will might mean that your estate is disposed of using an out of date document or by rules set out in statute. This might mean that your estate passes to unintended beneficiaries.
For a one-off administration charge of only £25 plus VAT, the will register affords peace of mind in ensuring that your loved ones can quickly and easily locate your will at an otherwise distressing time.
As solicitors, confidentiality is of the utmost importance to us, so please bear in mind that the register simply records where the will was made and stored. Your will remains confidential to you and us – the register does not store a copy of your will. In addition, location details will not be given out without your consent.
Following your death, the registry gives us details about anyone who is looking for your will. We answer the query, if it is legitimate, but if not we ignore it, thus protecting both your privacy and your beneficiaries.
The database is monitored on an ongoing basis and is encrypted to ensure the confidentiality of your personal information.
If you are interested in registering your will, or if you are currently searching for a loved one’s will, please contact Richard Bates, partner of Bunkers Solicitors, for more information.
