LawNet, the national network of mid-market law firms, has recently appointed Alex Jones, partner at East Sussex firm Bunkers, as chair of its employment group.
Established in 1989 to create a collaborative framework for group purchasing, training and knowledge sharing, LawNet currently has 66 member firms located across the UK and Ireland with a combined income in excess of £250m – equivalent to a UK Top 15 law firm. Bunkers is the network member in Brighton.
There are 27 special interest groups in LawNet, each focusing on an area of major importance to law firms. The groups play a pivotal role in the network enabling specialist knowledge transfer through a group email/discussion system, maximising the potential for networking and facilitating the swift referral of work between member firms. There are currently 3,000 active registrations to the groups, providing members with desk-top access to collective knowledge and expertise.
Most of the groups arrange specialist learning and networking days designed by group steering meetings where members meet to debate issues of relevance and plan training requirements.
In his new role, Alex will be responsible for chairing the employment group steering committees and act as a source of advice for other members regarding the activities and direction of the group.
Alex heads the employment team at Bunkers and is a specialist in employment law and discrimination. He advises a number of local, high profile, commercial clients on all aspects of employment law and the issues affecting human resources departments. His team also provides in-house training to keep organisations fully up-to-date on legal issues impacting on them and their staff.
His work extends to both contentious and non-contentious employment law and discrimination work. He joined Bunkers in September 2000 following admission as a solicitor and was made a partner in 2005.
Lynda Millar, LawNet’s director of services said: “The group chairs play a visible and vital role in the on-going success of our networking system. Access to shared know-how and training opportunities through the groups enhances members’ ability to provide a high quality service to their clients. LawNet is grateful for the support of members who take on the roles of chairs”
